Last week, Deborah Elliot-Shultz welcomed Ryan Lewis of AmPro inspections into the studio to discuss the reasons to have a home inspections as wells as the many things a home inspector checks.
Home inspections are not just for home buyers. They are also a good thing for homeowners.
Other than checking the roof and foundation, a home inspector also checks for safety hazards. Sometimes, a tree that was planted long ago will have roots that uplift walkways and patios. Some trees will also send out roots looking for water and break into water lines. Aspens will send shooters that can pop up in places you probably don’t want a tree.
A lot of landscape designs will place trees, shrubs, bushes, and other plants close to a house. The problem with this is that they can cause damage to siding, foundations, and in some cases, the has meter.
Other safety hazards that an inspector looks for are tripping hazards, rotten wood in decks, and gas leaks, among others.
Did you know that radon is the #2 lung cancer causes? And Colorado has a lot of radon. Thankfully, home inspectors like Ryan Lewis of AmPro Inspections can test for this deadly gas and install a mitigation system that will keep your home in the safe zone.
Another safety concern to keep in mind is carbon monoxide. Not only is it important to have a functioning carbon monoxide detector outside every bedroom, there’s a very good reason to have them near the floor…carbon monoxide is a heavy gas and detectors near the floor send a warning before it’s too late.
Come listen as Deborah and Ryan not only discuss safety concerns, but also share some interesting stories involving raccoons, replacing batteries, and some electrical oddities.
