When you are considering the buying or selling of a home, it’s important to consider your needs over 10 or 20 years. Circumstances will change, and while some of those are unknown factors, there are a few circumstances that can be considered. Questions such as: Are you single now, but could be married? Do you have children now or will they be leaving home in the next few years?
A great realtor can sit down with you to discuss some of the challenges you might face in the near future. A basic list of questions should include:
- Style of home? Townhouse, ranch, condo, adult community. New build or re-sell.
- Size of lot? Large or small. Easy care or plenty of room. Big dogs or small dogs. Swing set, trampoline, or nothing. Lots of yard maintenance or little to no maintenance.
- Pricepoint? The area you want to live in, the amenities available, the size of the lot and house will all affect the price.
- Lifestyle? Entertain frequently, out of town a lot, have children/grandchildren, like doing your own maintenance.
A great realtor will ask these questions and more. It may seem like a lot, but they are trying to figure out your vision and needs for your future home. Come listen as Deborah Elliott-Shultz discusses what it takes to upsize or downsize your home and how to create a game plan to make that happen!
