During the month of December, Deborah highlights different non-profit organizations in the Pikes Peak area. Today, she is joined by Shannon Brice of Care and Share.

Care and Share distributes food to people in 31 counties across Southern Colorado from Monument south to the border and spans to the borders on the East and West of the state, as well. They partner with over 300 front-line organizations such as Marion House, Ecumenical Social Ministries, Salvation Army, and many others. All of these groups follow the same idea for distribution of the food: there is no barrier or criteria to receiving needed food…you just have to ask. It provides nourishment to the vulnerable in our state without fear of having to pay, pray, or barter for the food.

Care and Share accepts food or monetary donations. Although they serve such a large area, this organization is able to use 96% of all cash donations towards food programs and procurement. That’s right! Only 4% of the money donated goes toward overhead. Which means, that because of their great stewardship of resources and their many relationships with food producers, they are able to feed 8 people for every $1 donated! 8 people! That’s amazing. Last year alone, they were able to feed just over 122,000 people and deliver 123,000,000 pounds of food! For this reason they are rated 4 Star by Charity Navigator Organization, the highest rating possible.

Does this sound like an organization you could get involved with? They are always in need of volunteers and donators. You can find out how you can get involved with this amazing organization by contacting them through their website at careandshare.org or calling (719) 528-1247.
