During this year’s Parade of Homes, one home stands out as the most amazing: The Cottage at Millhaven. To begin with, this home wasn’t just “smacked down” on a lot. It was strategically placed before construction ever began. Each room was planned with specific ideas and with specific views. The biggest desire for this house, though, was that it be a Cape Cod home with an East Coast feel in the midst of the mountains. The result was something amazing and unique for the region.
With the help of Karen Jones from All About Design, each room has a special feel to it that also incorporates the owners desires for the space. The kitchen was built with a baker in mind who not only enjoys baking treats for her family, but also desires a large enough space to cook family meals which will accommodate a large extended family while maintaining a cozy feeling.
From there, we move to the porch that is built to entertain with the Rocky Mountain Range as an amazing backdrop. In the basement, there is, among other things, a billiard hall, an outdoor living area with windows that completely open to create an indoor/outdoor back patio, and a full entertainment room with a refreshment area.
Upstairs, there are three bedrooms. One of these rooms has a secret galaxy room that serves as a play area for the kids and their numerous cousins. Plus, there is a sleepover room with 6 bunkies so the cousins can come over whenever they want.
A few details outside were incorporated to help make the Cape Cod home not feel quite so large. One of those details is a small separate Guest Cottage. This beautiful space is decorated like an upscale hotel room and provides a luxurious get-away for family and friends who come to visit.
For these reasons, and so many more, the Cottage at Millhaven won both the People’s Choice Award as well as the Industry Award of Excellence. Come listen as Deborah sits down for a chat with the person who has won the most awards in the Parade of Homes and designed The Cottage at Millhaven, Designer Karen Jones of All About Design.
